Surah Kahf Quotes, Status in English
Surah Al-Kahf is a great Surah of the Holy Qur’an, which contains a very important lesson about faith, patience and the end. The virtues of the recitation of this Surah and the events in it have given Muslims guidance in every age. The verses below are chosen to highlight the intellectual and moral jihad of Surah Kahf. Each verse holds a complete message within itself that burns the character of a human being and the purpose of life.

الْـحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَنزَلَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ الْكِتَابَ وَلَمْ يَجْعَل لَّهُ عِوَجًا ۜ (سورۃ الکهف: 1)
- All praise is to Allah, who has sent down the book to His servant and has no shortage of it.
فَضَرَبْنَا عَلَىٰ آذَانِهِمْ فِي الْكَهْفِ سِنِينَ عَدَدًا (سورۃ الکہف: 11)
- So we put a veil of sleep on their ears for many years.
إِنَّهُمْ فِتْيَةٌ آمَنُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ وَزِدْنَاهُمْ هُدًى (سورۃ الکهف: 13)
- Indeed, there were a few young men who believed in their Lord, so we increased their guidance.
وَاصْبِرْ نَفْسَكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ يَدْعُونَ رَبَّهُم بِالْغَدَاةِ وَالْعَشِيِّ يُرِيدُونَ وَجْهَهُ (سورۃ الکہف: 28)
- And stop yourself with those who call on their Lord in the morning and seek His pleasure.
وَقُلِ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ فَلْيُؤْمِن وَمَن شَاءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْ (سورۃ الکہف: 29)
- And say, The truth is from your Lord. Now whoever wants to believe and disbelieve whoever wishes.
الْمَالُ وَالْبَنُونَ زِينَةُ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَالْبَاقِيَاتُ الصَّالِحَاتُ خَيْرٌ عِندَ رَبِّكَ (سورۃ الکہف: 46)
- Wealth and children are adorned with the life of the world, and the good deeds of the rest of the world are better than your Lord.
وَقُلْ عَسَىٰ أَن يَهْدِيَنِ رَبِّي لِأَقْرَبَ مِنْ هَـٰذَا رَشَدًا (سورۃ الکہف: 24)
- I hope my Lord will guide me with even more guidance.
وَاتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِن كِتَابِ رَبِّكَ ۖ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِهِ (سورۃ الکہف: 27)
- And you read the Qur’an that has been revealed to you from the Book of your Lord. No twisting his words.
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ زِينَةً لَّهَا (سورۃ الکہف: 7)
- We have made its embellishment from what is on the ground.
وَلَا تَقُولَنَّ لِشَيْءٍ إِنِّي فَاعِلٌ ذَٰلِكَ غَدًا إِلَّا أَن يَشَاءَ اللَّـهُ (سورۃ الکہف: 23-24)
- And do not say that I will do this tomorrow, but say that if Allah wills.
قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِن كَانَ مَعِيَ هُدًى مِّن رَّبِّي وَآتَانِي رَحْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِهِ (الکہف: 37)
- He said, “Did you see if I have guidance from my Lord and He has given me a special mercy on my own?”
وَاضْرِبْ لَهُم مَّثَلًا رَّجُلَيْنِ جَعَلْنَا لِأَحَدِهِمَا جَنَّتَيْنِ مِنْ أَعْنَابٍ (الکہف: 32)
- And cite the example of two men in front of them, one of whom we gave two gardens of grapes.
فَخَرَجَ عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ فِي زِينَتِهِ ۖ قَالَ الَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا (الکہف: 79)
- Then he came to his people in his glory, and the seekers of the life of the world said, “I wish we had been like the Qur’an.”
قَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبُهُ وَهُوَ يُحَاوِرُهُ أَكَفَرْتَ بِالَّذِي خَلَقَكَ (الکہف: 37)
- His partner, who was talking to him, said. He denies the person who created you.
وَيَسْأَلُونَكَ عَن ذِي الْقَرْنَيْنِ ۖ قُلْ سَأَتْلُو عَلَيْكُم مِّنْهُ ذِكْرًا (الکہف: 83)
- And they ask themselves about Zulqarnain, ‘I will tell you something about it.
حَتَّىٰ إِذَا بَلَغَ مَغْرِبَ الشَّمْسِ وَجَدَهَا تَغْرُبُ فِي عَيْنٍ حَمِئَةٍ (الکہف: 86)
- Even when he arrived at the place of sunrise, he found it sinking in a black mud springs.
قَالَ هَـٰذَا رَحْمَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّي ۖ فَإِذَا جَاءَ وَعْدُ رَبِّي جَعَلَهُ دَكَّاءَ (الکہف: 98)
- He said, “This is mercy from my Lord.” Then when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make him cry.
قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبْرًا (الکہف: 72)
- He said, “Did I not tell you that you will not be able to be patient with me?”
قَالَ إِنَّكَ لَن تَسْتَطِيعَ مَعِيَ صَبْرًا وَكَيْفَ تَصْبِرُ عَلَىٰ مَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِهِ خُبْرًا (الکہف: 67-68)
- He said, “Indeed, you will not be able to be patient with me, and how will you be patient when you do not understand the truth of anything?”
وَكَانَ وَرَاءَهُم مَّلِكٌ يَأْخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصْبًا (الکہف: 79)
- And there was a king behind them who forcibly snatched every boat.
ذَٰلِكَ تَأْوِيلُ مَا لَمْ تَسْطِعْ عَلَيْهِ صَبْرًا (الکہف: 82)
- This is the reality of things: you cannot be patient.
قُلْ هَلْ نُنَبِّئُكُم بِالْأَخْسَرِينَ أَعْمَالًا الَّذِينَ ضَلَّ سَعْيُهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا (الکہف: 103-104)
- Say: Do we tell you about people whose actions are the most loss of those whose lives have been lost in the life of the world?
وَقَدِمْنَا إِلَىٰ مَا عَمِلُوا مِنْ عَمَلٍ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ هَبَاءً مَّنثُورًا (الکہف: 105)
- And we will come to their actions and make them dispersed.
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتُ الْفِرْدَوْسِ نُزُلًا (الکہف: 107)
- Of course, for those who believe and do good deeds, they will be the gardener of Firdous.
خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا لَا يَبْغُونَ عَنْهَا حِوَلًا (الکہف: 108)
- They will always be in them and will not even wish to withdraw from there.
قُل لَّوْ كَانَ الْبَحْرُ مِدَادًا لِّكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّي لَنَفِدَ الْبَحْرُ (الکہف: 109)
- Say, “Even if the sea becomes ink for the words of my Lord, the sea will end, and my Lord’s words will not end.”
فَمَن كَانَ يَرْجُو لِقَاءَ رَبِّهِ فَلْيَعْمَلْ عَمَلًا صَالِحًا (الکہف: 110)
- So whoever hopes to meet his Lord should do good to do good.
وَلَا يُشْرِكْ بِعِبَادَةِ رَبِّهِ أَحَدًا (الکہف: 110)
- And do not share anyone in the worship of your Lord.
يَوْمَ نَحْشُرُ الْمُتَّقِينَ إِلَى الرَّحْمَـٰنِ وَفْدًا (الکہف: 105)
- The day we will gather the pious as a guest to the Rehman.
وَإِذِ اعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ إِلَّا اللَّـهَ فَأْوُوا إِلَى الْكَهْفِ (الکہف: 16)
- And when you are separated from them and their gods, seek refuge in the cave, and your Lord will spread His mercy to you.
فَأَمَّا السَّفِينَةُ فَكَانَتْ لِمَسَاكِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ فِي الْبَحْرِ، فَأَرَدتُّ أَنْ أَعِيبَهَا، وَكَانَ وَرَاءَهُم مَّلِكٌ يَأْخُذُ كُلَّ سَفِينَةٍ غَصْبًا (الکهف: 79)
- The boat belonged to a few poor people who worked hard in the river, so I wanted to make him defective because there was a cruel king behind them who forcibly snatched every boat.
وَاتْلُ مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْكَ مِن كِتَابِ رَبِّكَ ۖ لَا مُبَدِّلَ لِكَلِمَاتِهِ ۖ وَلَن تَجِدَ مِن دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا (الکهف: 27)
- And read the book of your Lord that has been revealed to you. There is no change in his words, and you will not find any refuge other than him.
